Thank you for your compliment Sandy and for your interest in the HOW! I'd love to share! I had gotten some lovely new silicone catalyst tools and a silicone food plating diagonal spatula that looked promising as well. I am fond of the palette knife for typical application strokes but also for scratching and removal, and these offered thicker more flexible edges. I had in mind layering acrylic paint with the goal of uncovering the top layers to reveal the colors underneath. I wanted to try sweeping scrapes with the wider edges of the various silicone tools. With this I painted the entire canvas with a varigation of light peaches first and let it dry. Next I layered a messy mix of rich reds and burgandy purples, but this time I had to time my revealing techniques to be complete before it dried. I did this by using the whole of the silicone catalyst wedge edge (theres a mouth full LOL) in a sweeping upward stroke to create glowing grassy textures. Then I spattered water from my fingertips over the canvas let the drops sit for a moment and then placed a paper towel over the area pressed and lifed to reveal light speckles to resemble stars or perhaps fireflys and the texture of the paper towel (another thing to play with :-) FUN! I love techniques that have a serendipitous quality - the technique itself can become the muse! After drying I also used my new tools to add more grasses and leaves along with my well worn brushes and traditional palette knives for the flower petals. I am willing to bet my new silicone tools will become a go to tool to play with for some time to come! So let me know if you have any more questions :-)
